Where are you from:
Born in Nashville, I moved to Iowa when I was 12. I attended Iowa State University for my undergraduate studies and veterinary school. I completed my internship in Colorado and then lived in Georgia for 5 years before moving back to Iowa.
Family/Pets:
I am married to my husband, Matt, and we have one son, Turner. We also have two pittie bulls, Doug and Archie, and four kitty cats—Nori, Felix, Winnie, and Timmy.
Why did you want to become a veterinarian?
I’ve loved animals since before I could walk. They are what makes me happiest in life. I knew I wanted my career to be about helping animals and their humans.
One educational thing you want pet owners to know:
Routine and daily dental care can improve your animal’s overall health. Yearly exams can identify dental issues and address them early, allowing your animal to have a long and healthy life.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned so far from being in practice?
Never assume the obvious. Treat every case and animal as an individual and gather as much information as needed for a correct and accurate diagnosis.
Ever have any challenges as a pet owner?
Remembering their monthly prevention 😊 and treating and taking care of my chronic snotty kitty, Timmy.
If you weren’t a veterinarian, what job would you like to have?
Interior designer or baker. You can find me watching HGTV and baking goodies on my days off 😊
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I studied on a ship one summer when I was in undergrad. I visited different European countries and took classes on the ship while traveling between them.
